Ever since I was using QuickTime for all my movies, I couldn’t get its volume to full potential. I was left using other mighty players like VLC or MPlayer. But finally I found on the following blog a tip:
Pump up the volume in Quicktime » LifeClever 😉

Apart from the normal volume control one gets, there is hidden volume control, which can only be accessed by holding down Shift while clicking the very volume icon in the controller. On this special slider, one can change the volume level for the whole player. I just do not understand, why this feature is kept hidden :-/
